Lucia Báez-Geller

A NEW FUTURE FOR FLORIDA

Lucia Báez-Geller is an educator, community leader, and lifelong Floridian. The daughter of a Colombian mother, and a Cuban father, who came to Miami fleeing communism, Lucia saw the sacrifices her parents made to achieve the American Dream. Lucia’s father fled communism in Cuba in the 1980’s. He survived and found his way to America after spending a month living on the Peruvian embassy’s ground with almost no food or water. Finally, he was able to board a ship heading for America. Lucia was raised by her single mother, who worked multiple jobs to ensure Lucia got the best education possible.

As the first in her family to go to college, Lucia has seen first hand how the power of education can change lives. That’s why Lucia became a teacher for Miami’s public school system, teaching thousands of students English and Language Arts at Miami Beach Senior High from 2005 to 2020.

Lucia’s passion for education and helping the community that built her prompted her to run for Miami-Dade County School Board District 3. Since 2020, Lucia has helped improve Miami-Dade’s public schools, keeping schools safe, protecting all students from extreme attacks, and ensuring students are prepared to level up in the classroom.
