Washington, D.C. - As part of its commitment to expanding Latino representation in Congress, today CHC BOLD PAC is endorsing Sabina Matos in the Special Election for Rhode Island’s 1st congressional district. CHC BOLD PAC Chairwoman Linda Sánchez released the following statement on the endorsement:

Sabina is a proven leader and has made her mark in history as Lieutenant Governor and the first Afro-Latina to hold statewide office in Rhode Island. She understands the struggles that working families in her district are facing and she’ll fight to create an inclusive economy that uplifts and protects Rhode Island’s working families and leaves no one behind,” said CHC BOLD PAC Chairwoman Linda Sánchez. “BOLD PAC has a proven record of electing strong Latina voices and we stand with Sabina because we know she will be a champion for all Americans in Congress.”

SABINA MATOS


Sabina Matos grew up in the Dominican Republic, and immigrated to the US at 20 years old. She later moved to Providence and graduated from Rhode Island College. She served for 10 years on the Providence City Council, championing affordable housing for hard-working Rhode Islanders, protecting reproductive rights, and supporting women leaders. Sabina’s determination to make Providence a better place led her to become the first Latina to serve as President of the Providence City Council in 2019.


In 2021, Sabina made history again when she became Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island. She became the first Black and Latina person and second woman to hold the office in state history. Sabina knows anything in America is possible. That’s why she’s running for Congress, to make sure everyone has the same opportunity for the American dream.


CHC BOLD PAC


BOLD PAC is the campaign arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and is dedicated to increasing diversity in the House and Senate by getting more Latinos and Latinas elected. Sabina Matos creció en la República Dominicana y emigró a los Estados Unidos a los 20 años. Más tarde se mudó a Providence y se graduó de Rhode Island College. Sirvió durante 10 años en el Concejo Municipal de Providence, luchó por viviendas asequibles para los trabajadores de Rhode Island, por proteger los derechos reproductivos y apoyar a las mujeres líderes. La determinación de Sabina por hacer de Providence un lugar mejor, la llevó a convertirse en la primera latina en servir como Presidenta del Concejo Municipal de Providence en 2019.


En 2021, Sabina volvió a hacer historia cuando se convirtió en Vicegobernadora de Rhode Island.
