Bringing a fresh perspective to Congress, Jimmy has roots as an organizer for working families, an advocate for our front-line nurses, and as a community college teacher. Born in Southern California and raised by his Mexican immigrant parents, Jimmy values the importance of dedication to hard work to making a difference in the lives of his constituents.

Jimmy is a champion of environmental equity and canceling student loan debt. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jimmy led the fight to help people pay for food and rent, and help protect jobs and keep small businesses open. He championed the American Rescue Act, passed the enhanced and expanded child tax credit payments to families, and the Paycheck Protection Program to help small businesses stay open. Through his support for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, funding was made available to help create housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.


Jimmy currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and is the Ranking Member of the CIA subcommittee. He is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and founder and chair of the Congressional Dads Caucus and Renters Caucus.
